On Farm Day, more than 20 Ventura County farms open their doors and invite the public to experience a day of agricultural learning firsthand with tours and activities. This free, popular event connects the community with its farming neighbors, and encourages them to visit the farms in their backyards.
Club Members had a wonderful time on our Ventura County Farm Day caravan! We visited five farms and the Farm Park Museum. At the Alpaca Farm in Somis, Jan and Lori joined 11 other club members enjoying the sweet Alpacas and petting their necks at the lovely farm.
Joe and Debby with 7 other club members on a truck through the fields under the blueberry tent at Reiter Farms, growing for Driscoll Berries in Camarillo.
At Reiter Farms’ Health Booth, Club members tasted infused water with raspberries, rosemary, and orange slices offered as a replacement for sugary drinks shown here with amounts of sugar in each one.
We ate lunch at the Oxnard Farm Park Museum where we were serenaded by two guitarists under a pergola in lovely 75 degree weather!
Lori and Jill checked out the old farm equipment.
San Miguel Produce in Oxnard gave us yummy kale smoothies and we picked organic kale in the fields. Here is Mary and Lori in hair nets and gloves sampling the kale!
Late in the day at Andrew Williamson Farm in Oxnard, we toured the fields with friendly farm workers. Four of us ended the day buying produce at McGrath Organic Farm Stand in Camarillo.
